Safety Questions
General Information
Who should I call in
the event of a fire?
Stay calm and immediately
get out of the building activating a fire pull station if you can
safely do so on your way out. When you get to a safe place
outside the building call 911 from any campus phone.
What should I do if a
notice a fire safety violation on campus?
Contact the Department of
Campus Safety at 260-982-5999 or 5999 from any campus phone.

by clicking here. We contact the Physical Plant
immediately to insure the problem is fixed.
Who will respond if
there is a fire?
Manchester College has an
excellent working relationship with The North Manchester Fire
Department. We have several joint fire safety training
programs each year. The North Manchester Fire Department also
hold training sessions on our campus to familiarize fire fighter
with building floor plans.

Who need to take
portable fire extinguisher training?
Anyone who uses a
laboratory or works with flammable and/or combustible materials
should enroll in a portable fire extinguisher training session.
We welcome all interested members of the College community to enroll
in a session, and we encourage you to learn more about fire
extinguishers on campus. Remember you should never attempt to
fight a fire if you are not trained in the use of a portable fire
extinguisher.
Who needs to take
building evacuation training?
If you are responsible
for the safe building evacuation of others on campus because of your
role as an student instructor, residential assistant, or building
coordinator, you should enroll in a building evacuation training
session. We welcome all interested members of the College
community to enroll in a session, and we encourage you to always
have an exit strategy for everywhere you study, work and play.
Is smoking allowed
in my room?
Manchester College
prohibits smoking inside all College facilities and with in 15 feet
of some buildings. Designated smoking area are clearly marked
and should be the only location that is used.
Are candles and
incense allowed in College buildings?
No. Candles and incense
are not permitted.
Storage in Campus
Buildings
Am I allowed to store
things in electrical and/or mechanical rooms?
It is against Indiana
State law to store combustible materials in boiler rooms, mechanical
rooms, or electrical equipment rooms. These rooms are check
daily by Manchester College Safety Staff and any thing stored in
these rooms will be removed.
Storage in Corridors,
Stairwells, electrical rooms, and Mechanical Rooms
Indiana State Law and
Manchester College Policy prohibits the storage of any combustible
materials in these locations. This includes but is not limited to
bicycles, boxes, cleaning supplies, and announcements taped to
window walls or doors. These locations are check daily by Manchester
College Safety Staff and any thing stored in these locations will be
removed.
Is it okay to leave
stairwell doors blocked open?
Stairwell doors should
never be propped open. This is against Indiana State Law and
Manchester College Policy.
