Frequently Asked Parking Questions
Q Faculty/Staff Parking- is there specific parking in the PERC
which is only for PERC faculty/staff?
A
No, other than the “reserved”
parking on the south side of the PERC, which is intended for the
athletic trainers, faculty/staff parking spaces are reserved for any
and all employees, regardless of their work assignments and/or
office locations. However, due to the parking problems that the PERC
staff and faculty were experiencing, we were encouraging employees
who work in the Union to park in the North Union lot, which had
faculty/staff parking spaces that were not being used. It was felt
that the walking distance would be a “wash” for the Union building
employees, and that parking would actually be closer for some
employees. Please know that this was only a request, and is not
mandatory. Providing that a faculty/staff decal is displayed, this
parking is open for all employees.
Q Can faculty/staff members park in student parking without
getting a ticket?
A Yes, though employees are
encouraged to first search for parking in the spaces reserved for
faculty and staff, they may also park in “general parking” areas.
Other than the two rows of “commuter student parking,” located in
the North Union Lot, the College does not have parking areas
specifically reserved for students.
Q
What does Parking by Permit only
mean? Can any faculty, staff, or student park there? What about when
visitors come to campus for an event such as the Manchester
Symphony? Where should they park?
A
These signs simply mean that the
vehicle must display a current parking permit, whether employee,
resident student, commuter student, or resident of a College
apartment. As we have done in the past, during any of the larger
campus events, e.g., public program, sporting event, recitals,
convocation, etc., Campus Safety staff members do not issue tickets
for decal violations at these times. At other times, however,
visitors are expected to park in the parking spaces specifically
reserved for visitors, and we now have an adequate number of
visitors parking areas on campus.
Q
Who are the Reserved
Parking spots for in the lot across from the Ad Building for?
A
These spaces are reserved
for residents of College apartments.
Q
I do not plan on having a car on
campus. Do I still need a parking decal?
A
If you are not bringing a
car to the campus you do not need to purchase a decal. It is
required however, that you send an email to the Safety Office
informing us of your intent. Please send a short email stating
you will not have a car registered to you on College property at any
time to
ksburns@manchester.edu.
Q
Where do I get a parking permit?
A
Parking permits may be
obtained at the Campus Safety Office, located at 1305 East Street.
The vehicle operator will need to complete the auto registration
card beforehand. Most of the information you need to complete this
form can be found on your state vehicle registration.
Q
Where should I display my permit?
A
Vehicle registration permits
should be adhered to the inside of the windshield, in the lower
right-hand corner.
Q
Where are all of the faculty and staff
parking areas?
A
Faculty and staff parking spaces
are located in most parking lots across campus.
Q
What do I do if I am using a
loaner vehicle while my registered vehicle is inoperable?
A
If a motor
vehicle is to be on campus for a period of three weeks or less, or
if a borrowed vehicle is being used while a registered vehicle is
temporarily inoperable, a temporary permit must be obtained from the
Safety Office. There is no charge for temporary permits issued to
students who have another vehicle registered with the College.
Other temporary permits are issued at the rate of $1 per week.
