Resumes

A good resume is not good enough! In today's competitive job market, your resume needs to be outstanding. Let us show you how.

Resume Appointments

The Office of Career Services is here to assist you with writing your resume whether you are starting your first draft or polishing your current one.

Writing Your Resume

There is no one "right" way to create a resume. There are a variety of formats, styles, and section headers. Each resume should be as unique as the person writing it. Make sure your resume is uniquely yours.

To get started, look at some examples, or thousands of examples, to help generate ideas and then start a draft. When developing content, consider your education, work and volunteer experiences, internships, activities, sports, professional training, awards, scholarships, and other accomplishments. Use our resume writing guide for help with format and phrasing.

Once you are finished with the first draft of your resume, be sure to bring it to the Office of Career Services in the Success Center to have a career counselor examine it with you to help ensure it is the best it can possibly be.

Curriculum Vitae - Academic Resumes

What's the difference between a resume and a vita (or academic resume)? Resumes focus on your relevant work experience and are used primarily for employment opportunities. Curriculum vitae are focused on your academic experience and are used primarily in academic settings, such as graduate school, scholarship applications, employment in higher education, and research and grant applications. Vitae often include the same information as resumes, but with much greater detail on academic experience, including teaching, presentations, research and published work.

Use our curriculum vitae writing guide for help with format and phrasing.

More information on vitae, including examples are available on About.com: Vitae / Curriculum Vitae and Your Guide to Writing Curriculum Vitae
