Manchester nurse, Tara Vogel, and Dr. Pamela Higgins of the Manchester Clinic have developed the "Ask the Doctor" column in The Oak Leaves, Manchester University's official newspaper. This column's purpose is to provide answers to questions posed by students who have medical questions or concerns. 

Vogel expressed concern that students may be getting false medical information from unaccredited websites, so this solution was proposed. Instead of looking up a question or concern on the Internet, where one can never be sure of the authenticity of the information posted, one can have a response from a medical doctor. 

All MU Students are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity. Students can obtain an index card in the lower union, write down their question and drop the card in the mailbox under the "Ask The Doctor" sign. The cards are sent confidentially to Vogel, who will send them to Dr. Higgins at the Manchester Clinic.  Dr. Higgins will formulate a response and send it to the editors of The Oak Leaves, who will then print the column. "This will give those students who don't feel comfortable asking questions one-on-one a chance to get the answers they need, and also for the students who don't have time to stop in and ask a question, "Vogel explained. The inquiring students remain anonymous, and only the doctor's name will appear in print in the column. 

Usually, one question will be answered in each issue of The Oak Leaves. However, space permitting, more can be answered. If any questions are overlapping, they will be modified.
