Why attend MU: I attended Scholarship Day and met the then-Department Chair, Dr. Gilliar. We talked for the entire interview time about Germany, Kate Chopin, and the things I have done in my life. By the end of the interview, I was sure I wanted to study at MU in the English department.

Favorite thing: As an MU student, I have had opportunities that I might not have had otherwise. For example, I am writing this in Marburg, Germany, where I am going to attend Philips University!

Never expected: I participated in the 2010 Student Research Symposium as a First-Year student. I gave a presentation and wrote a fifteen page paper on one of Kate Chopin's works.

I found: At Manchester University, I found my home. I call MU my second home because I feel like I am surrounded by a second family. The people there are so caring and helpful. In the evenings, I can sit in the Oaks and do homework until the night worker, Rachelle, joins me on her break. Dr. Gilliar, a professor in the English department, invites everyone to attend her end-of-semester party/petting zoo. And, if ever I have a problem, I know there is always someone available to help.
