Hometown: Urbana, IN, United States
Major: Communication Studies
Grad Year: 2014
Why attend MU: From my first visit I loved the atmosphere at Manchester. The professors and other students were so friendly and kind that I wanted to be associated with this University. Though my home is close, I love the freedom I get at meal times and with decorating my room. I just loved everything about being at Manchester, it felt like home to me.
Favorite thing: My favorite thing about being an MU student is all the many ways to get involved with the other students. This year I am participating in Pre Professionals of Science, Circle K, and the Communications Club (that I started with my two friends, Hannah and Ashley). There are many ways to get involved and become successful. Study tables, MAC events, and clubs are just a few of the many options. When you start participating in the activities of campus, friends are easy to make and people of all sorts become recognizable. Joining the fun will keep you out of trouble and give you good connections for when it comes to studying or needing letters of recommendation. Getting involved is a good idea when coming to Manchester, and the University needs innovators to keep the campus thriving.
Never expected: Travel abroad! Since I am in the Fast Forward program, I never thought that I would be able to visit another country while at Manchester. During my freshman year, I decided that I wanted to expand my horizons and go someplace totally new and different. The Art 121 January Term trip to Spain was my destination of choice. I could not have been happier with the class! It was amazing to go to another country, not of my native language, and see how people of a different culture lived! Trying new foods, going to a Flamenco show, and speaking Spanish were all novel experiences for me. I could not trade the trip for anything. I loved every minute and I hope to study abroad during another January before I graduate!
I found: At Manchester University, I found where I belong. The second I stepped foot on this campus I knew that there was no place like Manchester. MU has provided me with more opportunities than I could have ever dreamed of having. The professors and students are accommodating to everyone, and the campus exudes happiness. After one year I know that this is where I belong, and that no matter where I go after graduation, Manchester will forever be my home.
