Hometown: Kokomo, IN, US
Major: Environmental Studies, Biology
Grad Year: 2015
Why attend MU: I chose Manchester because after visiting, I felt it was a school that would ultimately help me to succeed in the future. I liked the idea of hands on learning and working closely with professors during the school year - and getting help finding and applying for summer internships. I saw a great opportunity to become a highly skilled and marketable person by the time I graduate. All else aside, I found that Manchester is a place to build connections and lasting relationships with both students and faculty.
Favorite thing: Well, pretty much - IT'S AWESOME! It's a small school with tons of great opportunities for learning and fun. You get to know lots of people from different backgrounds and different areas of study, and your professors are just as close as your friends.
Never expected: I never expected to have so much real-world experience within my field. But after one year here, I've studied water samples, captured and tagged birds, shocked for fish, etc. Thanks to my awesome professors, I spent my first summer doing an internship in Virginia where I worked with endangered freshwater mussels. I never imagined I'd find myself in a beautiful river in the middle of the mountains flat on my stomach in the water snorkeling for a mollusk - and getting paid for it!
