The College of Pharmacy at Manchester University has tapped Dr. Mary Kiersma as its 2012-2013 Scholar of the Year.
Kiersma, director of academic and operations assessment for the College, is ideal for the honor, said faculty colleagues who nominated her:
Her scholarly productivity during the College of Pharmacy’s inaugural year is impressive. She authored five peer-reviewed publications and presented 10 academic research posters in 2012-13 and will present seven posters in July at the annual meeting of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy in Chicago.
Her primary research is scholarship of teaching and learning, Most recently, she authored “Validation of an Empathy Scale in Pharmacy and Nursing Students,” published in the American Journal of Pharmaceutical Education.
Kiersma’s scholarship represents collaborations with many colleagues at both the MU College of Pharmacy and the North Manchester campus, and other academic institutions. She frequently engages students in her scholarship and is a popular mentor.
Kiersma joined the MU faculty in August 2011, with more than seven years of commercial and clinical pharmacy experience. She earned her Pharm. D. and Ph.D. in pharmacy practice from Purdue University.
Manchester is in the final stages of enrolling its second class in the four-year Pharmacy program. More than 450 qualified students from across the nation applied for the 73 seats. Classes begin Aug. 5. For more about the MU College of Pharmacy, visit manchester.edu/pharmacy.
