Note: Manchester changed its name to Manchester University and the College of Pharmacy on July 1, 2012.
News release (Feb. 9, 2012)
Manchester College has received authorization to begin enrolling students in its School of Pharmacy in northern Fort Wayne. The Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education has awarded precandidate accreditation status to the new school, said Dave McFadden, interim dean and executive vice president of the College.
“This is a critical achievement for the School of Pharmacy because it validates the strength of our leadership team and it enables us to enroll our first class of 70 students,” McFadden said.
The Council accredits all Doctor of Pharmacy programs in the United States and other selected non-U.S. sites. It based its decision on Manchester’s detailed application and a comprehensive site visit in October 2011. The decision demonstrates the Council accepts the mission and vision of the School of Pharmacy and that it is on track to achieve full accreditation in May 2016, upon graduating its first class of students.
The School of Pharmacy has received more than 300 applications and expects to receive significantly more before the March 1 application deadline. “We are looking for well-rounded students who not only meet our high academic standards, but who have also demonstrated their commitment to serving their community and impacting the greater good,” said Joe Bonnarens, associate dean of student affairs.
Adding a pharmacy program is a natural step for Manchester College, whose mission is to graduate persons of ability and conviction who improve the human condition. Student pharmacists will participate in health care collaborations in retail, clinical and laboratory settings across northeast Indiana. Their impact on the surrounding community naturally extends Manchester’s commitment to social service.
In addition, most of the 70 new students each year are likely to relocate with their families to the Fort Wayne area, contributing to the economic vitality and growth of the region.
