In March 2011, Manchester announced a new permanent site for its School of Pharmacy, on the north side of Fort Wayne. Read news release.

Manchester College will locate its new School of Pharmacy in the Fort Wayne Cardiology building adjacent to the Randallia campus of Parkview Health, officials from both organizations have announced.

“Locating the graduate School of Pharmacy in the Randallia neighborhood enriches everybody involved,” said Manchester President Jo Young Switzer. “It provides the neighborhood with continued stability and resources, and it gives our students a dynamic health venue in which to study.”

Parkview Health will help Manchester College transform the Fort Wayne Cardiology office building at 1819 Carew St. into a satellite campus in 2012, after Fort Wayne Cardiology moves its Carew office to the new Parkview Regional Medical Center on the Parkview North campus.

The appealing neighborhood site is welcoming for students and faculty, said Switzer. “The building’s open design allows for easy renovation and adaption of spaces for classroom and lab use. It is relatively new, very well-maintained and has many amenities, including covered parking.”

“Parkview is very pleased to be a key partner with Manchester College as we work together on a great education venture for northeast Indiana,” said Mike Packnett, president and CEO for Parkview Health.
“Having a pharmacy school in Fort Wayne is a tremendous educational and economic development benefit to our region. It’s also good news for the Randallia neighborhood and demonstrates our commitment to having a significant presence there.”

"This is fantastic news for the city of Fort Wayne and especially the neighborhoods surrounding the hospital's campus,” said Mayor Tom Henry. "I know many locations were ready to welcome Manchester's pharmacy program, but this choice will be a great fit to serve not just the East State Boulevard area, but be a boost to the entire Fort Wayne community with northern Indiana's only pharmacy program."

Manchester College announced Oct. 17 that its Board of Trustees have approved the first satellite campus and the first doctoral program in the history of the College, located 45 minutes west of Fort Wayne.
Manchester now can focus on hiring a dean, the extensive pre-accreditation process for a School of Pharmacy, and raising $10 million in start-up costs. The School of Pharmacy will need additional financial partnerships to reach that $10 million goal, noted Switzer.

Manchester expects to enroll 265 students into its School of Pharmacy, with 30 faculty and 10 staff members. “Our pharmacy school will blend rigorous academics with a culture of community service,” said Switzer. Northeast Indiana offers an enriching environment of community and private training opportunities for pharmacy students, who must complete 10 one-month practicums during their fourth year of study.
“We share Manchester’s vision for this program and look forward to having the pharmacy students stay in our area for career opportunities,” said Packnett.

In the interim, Parkview Health will provide space in its adjacent Carew Medical Park office building for the pharmacy school’s administrative offices, beginning this summer. Manchester will temporarily share that space with the Parkview Eye Institute, physician offices, the Parkview Safety Store, the Children’s Specialty Clinic and a Super Shot clinic.

“During the College’s feasibility study, both major health systems in Fort Wayne shared valuable input about facilities, clinical placement sites and ways that Manchester University can strengthen economic development in northeast Indiana and Fort Wayne,” said Switzer.

“We are grateful for the ways that many civic, health care, economic and higher education leaders are coming together to help make this school a reality.”
