Bio History Note

Funderburg Library was built in 1966.  The collection was moved from the library's old location in the Communications Building (now demolished) to the new building.  The collection was moved by students, and many volunteers, including President Helman.  See photographs of the move in the Communications Building Photo Box.

Included in Photo Box 105 are images of architectural plans.  Following is a paragraph that was found on a piece of paper within Box 105.

"An architect's drawing of the new library.  Construction began early in March and is scheduled for completion by early summer, 1966. The 150,000 volume capacity library will provide study facilities for about 500 students.  It will be air-conditioned throughout, and will feature the most modern concepts in library construction and function."

Orpha Book, Reference Librarian 1964 - 1975.

Ruth Coblentz, Librarian 1945 - 1970.

In 1992 Jean Ann Tribolet was the Registrar.

In 1992 Rowan Daggett and Charles Klingler were Professors of English.

In 1992 Doris AIrgood Stephenson was the cataloging librarian.

In 1992 Jim Bishop taught History and Byron Smith worked at the Computer Center.

Jeanne Hickling was Reference Librarian from 1989 - 1996.

Archivist Note

The accession number MC2003/115 was apparently created in 2003 and some photographs in Photo Box #105 were marked accordingly.  In July of 2011 the photographs in the Photograph Box 105, labeled "Buildings, Funderburg Library-Inside," were once again sorted by archivist, Jeanine Wine.  From here on, all the photos in this box should be considered to be part of MC2003/115, even though the archivist does not have sufficient time to place an accession number on each photograph.

Library Director, Robin Gratz, helped make photo identifications July 2011.

A set of photographs accessioned as MC2002/323 is also included in this box.

Description prepared 2 August 2011 by Jeanine M. Wine.
