Bio History Note

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. spoke on Manchester College's campus on February 1, 1968 (he was originally scheduled to speak on May 11, 1967, but the visit was postponed).  His visit to Manchester was the last appearance he made in Indiana.  He was assassinated shortly afterwards, on April 4, 1968.  Dr. King's visit to Manchester  was very controversial and caused divisions among the people of North Manchester as well as among Manchester College's own student body and alumni.
