Bio History Note

This collection contains paper documents and audiotape of interviews with Manchester Graduates and former Manchester students who served in Civilian Public Service in the late 1940s.  Some left Manchester College to serve and others came to Manchester following their service.  This project was sponsored and funded by the Lilly Endowment, Inc. Plowshares Grant in order to strengthen peace studies at Earlham, Goshen, and Manchester Colleges.  A goal of the grant was to capture the oral histories of Manchester students who served in CPS before that generation of individuals was lost.  Many of these individuals had died before the spring of 2004 when the taping was done.

Virginia Keller (MC Class of 1980) conducted the interviews and made the tapes.

Archivist Note

Description prepared 05 February 2008 by Jeanine M. Wine and last updated 11 March 2008 by Jeanine M. Wine.

The audiotapes associated with videotaped interviews [MC2012/33] were accessioned into the collection in 2008 [MC2008/06], prior to the addition of MC2012/33 in the year 2012.

It makes sense to combine these collections, since they are associated with the same project. Therefore, MC2008/06 and MC2012/33 have been combined into two large boxes labeled MC2012/33 located on Unit #8 of the Inner Sanctum [IS].
