Perhaps Susan was the artist of the picture of David Howe that hangs in the old Archives' Office? - on further research, J. Wine found a file folder containing letters from David N. Howe and W. H. Howe. In W. H. Howe's letter of 4 November 1938, W. H. writes, "Susie Holderman Howe was one of the first Art students there back in 1982-3, and she is still painting. ....." Susie Holderman Howe might also be the wife of W. H. Howe, who is mentioned in various letters and is very interested in the arts.
