Bio History NoteSee the Brethren Encyclopedia where the following is excerpted:

Home Lionel Burke and Marguerite Schrock Burke were missionary physician and nurse.  They were pioneer Brethren missionaries in Nigeria, 1924-38.  After several years in medical practice in Indiana (1938-46) they served at Castener Hospital in Puerto Rico (1946-61) and then returned to Nigeria (1962-68).  Marguerite was the model for other expatriates in her ability to "live off the land."  She was always concerned for the less fortunate.  She was an "amazing multilingual woman who engendered love in people of many races and cultures."
