It proved to be the femur of a mastodon. On 19 October 1929 a party of teachers and students from Manchester College spent a day excavating the site. Kintner writes about the site and the excavation.
The 45th Annual Meeting of the Indiana Academy of Science was held at Earlham College in Richmond Indiana on December 5-7, 1929. The publication was printed in Fort Wayne in 1930.
