The Oaks began in a house on College Avenue and Harrison Street (now called Bond Street) in 1943. The house originally belonged to Mrs. Fair. A contest was held to name the new gathering place and eatery, and the winning entry, The Oaks, was announced in the 18 November 1943 edition of Oak Leaves.
The second Oaks was located in a converted barracks purchased from the government after World War II. The barracks was placed on College Avenue in what is now (in 2002) a parking lot.
The third Oaks was located in the upper level of the Union Building.
The fourth Oaks was located in the basement of the original Oakwood Hall.
The fifth Oaks is located in the lower level of the Union Building. |
