Bio History NoteBarry Goldwater spoke at Manchester College in 1968, a week after Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s visit to campus. According to the book, "A Century of Faith, Learning and Service," Goldwater's appearance was made to appease townspeople who were irate over the presence of King.  This anger partly stemmed from King's opposition to the Vietnam War.  Barry Goldwater was in support of the war.
