ProvenanceThe Kosciuszko medal was donated to the Funderburg Library Archives by the children of L. W. Shultz, Betty Marie Shultz Kilinski ('46), Carole Shultz Davis ('51) and Carl Shultz ('51) and was presented to Director, Rob Gratz on 9 March 2009 by Peggy Reiff Miller.

Bio History Note

The Kosciuszko medal was given to L. W. Shultz by the mayor of Warsaw, Poland for L. W.'s service in 1945 and 1946 in providing post-war relief to the Polish people.  The medal displays the image of Tadeusz Kosciuszko on one side and the verso bears the inscription "bicentenary of birth" along with a quote about General Kosciuszko from Thomas Jefferson: "He was as pure a Son of Liberty as I have ever known and of that liberty which is to go to all and not to the few or to the rich alone."
