Professor Dr. Eldon Burke taught History and Political Science at Manchester College from 1953 -1969.  James T. Westwood graduated from Manchester College in 1962 and was a student of Burke's. Burke was instrumental in determining Westwood's career path.

James Westwood has documented that he last visited Burke and his first wife at their home on Mill Street in North Manchester.  The date of the visit was July, 1980.  At that time, Dr. Burke had retired from teaching and was approximately 82 years old.  According to Westwood, Burke was in the process of writing a medieval history of the Middle East. 

Mr. Westwood has donated a caricature of Dr. Burke that was drawn by Dr. William Schuhle. Dr. Schuhle, was a professor of Political Science and History at Manchester College (1956 -1967 and from 1968 -1970), an artist, and a colleague of Dr. Burke's. The caricature was given to Mr. Westwood by  Burke's daughter, Alice Burke Wend during a visit Westwood made to her home in North Manchester in October, 2006. 

James Westwood has done research about the life of Professor Burke and includes biographical material with the objects being gifted to the Archives.
