Scope and Content

Five letters from Vernon Stinebaugh including:

1. Statistics for the music department that was submitted to President Helman in 1972.

2.  A story from Professor Stinebaugh's days as a student at Manchester College, "A Public Paddling - Thwarted!"

3.  A story about an event as a Brethren minister's son, "Preacher's Kids Survive Wild Joy Ride."

4.  Cover letter to President Jo Switzer.

5. Celebrity, Percy Grainger, composer and pianist, performs on campus, 1953 for the dedication concert of the Winger Fine Arts building, Professor Stinebaugh conducts the concert and hosts reception in home. More information is included in the letter.

6. Material added 2 July 2019: "Together in Harmony," Vernon and Angela Stinebaugh celebrate 77 years of marriage.  Newspaper article with a biography about the couple's life experiences. Accompanying letter written by Vernon Stinebaugh.

Bio History Note

Vernon Stinebaugh is an alumnus of Manchester College (Class of 1941), a minister of the Church of the Brethren and an accomplished violinist.  He served as a professor of String and of Music at Manchester College from 1946 - 1977.

 

Vernon's brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Galen Stinebaugh, died in the KLM airline accident in which many Brethren were killed following a historical pilgrimage to Germany in the 1900's.  Galen and wife were bringing violins home for their 2 daughters.
