ProvenanceFrom the top floor (attic) of the Communications Building, in rooms adjoining the Radio Station. The tapes were transferred to the Archives in November, 2007 before the Communication building's destruction.
Scope and Content

Old Ampex reel-to-reel format tapes including the lectures given by professors such as Gary Deavel, Jim Hollis, John Planer, Steven Batzka, Charles Klinger, James R. C. Adams, and others.  The college does not have the equipment necessary to listen to all of tapes.

Ninety-six Ampex reel-to-reel video tapes.

An additional 52 reel video tapes that are labeled.

One large reel tape captioned, Classics Part 2.

One large reel tape captioned, Nutcracker Part 2.

Two Videotape Log books, including a sheet with the video number, title, course the video is related to, individual on the tape and length of tape..

10 small mystery reels, unidentified.

20 Cassette tapes (perhaps used in the Radio Station) or by Professors for various classes.

One tape labeled, Side 1, Prince.

The following list of tapes are typed and abbreviated the way the caption is written on the master list.  There are indeed some errors.  Most of these tapes can not be listened to because in 2007 the College could not digitize all tapes because of the equipment (in 2007 either broken or discarded) needed for this type of venture.  In 2009 and 2010 Pittman and his staff were able to digitize some of the recordings that were on particular types of tape.

Bio History Note

These tapes were stored on the top floor of the Communications Building, a structure that was not temperature or humidity controlled.  The condition of the tapes is not known.  In 2007 the College could not digitize most of these tapes because of the equipment (in 2007 either broken or discarded) needed for this type of venture.

Many of these tapes contain lectures given by such professors as Gary Deavel, Jim Hollis, John Planer, Steven Batzka, Charles Klinger, James R. C. Adams, and many more.  They were used during the time when Manchester College had a Core program.  The machines that played them were donated to the North Manchester History Center, but are no longer in working.

Archivist Note

Description prepared 19 December 2007 by Jeanine M. Wine.

Other reel-to-reel tapes and videos were found in boxes along the East wall of the IIS of the Archives.  Stan Pittman was able to digitize some of these recordings as well. Videographer, David Sollenberger also worked on digitizing sports videos.  There were so many tapes and videos from the Communications Building and from boxes in the Archives that they could not always be kept separate when traveling to Stan's department for digitization. Therefore, there could be inaccuracies when identifying the area from which a recording had been stored [either the Communications Building or in a box in the Archives]. The audio tapes from the Communications Building were most always listed in one of the video log books referred to above.
