Scope and Content

Three photographs of what appears to be the Flying Club

The 1967 Aurora features the Flying Club on pgs. 62 and 63.

Date of Accession04 August 2011
Bio History NoteAccording to the 1967 Aurora the Flying Club, Flight Crew Incorporated, was chartered by the FAA. It owned its own plane and rented it to members.  In 1967 members flew  under the instruction of Roy Taylor from the Servia, Indiana airport. A member received a pilot's license after ten hours dual flying, ten hours cross coutry flying, and twenty hours solo flying.
Archivist Note

A packet of materials for inclusion in the Archives was dropped off at the front desk of the Library by an unidentified individual. Because of the assortment of materials the Archivist believes the donor was the former Archivist, Ferne Baldwin.

Included were pictures of an airplane and a possible student at an airport. The photographs were not identified as the Flight Club, but were identified by an individual familiar with the area, Ed Rice, as being taken at the Servia airport.  Since the Aurora states that Servia Airport is the location where flight instruction occurred, the Archivist is assuming these pictures are of the Flight Club.  Two other photographs of young people in the seat of an airplane were found in Photo Box 96 and so these three pictures were accessioned together.
