An approximate translation of the paper in the plastic sleeve reads: "This origami pin was designed in Tokyo by one of the survivors of the atomic bomb. Currently, the sufferings of 300,000 people is equal to the atomic bomb. Please wear this badge to show your support for the relief efforts and the people affected by this calamity." NOTE: The concept of the folded paper crane was the idea of Sadako Sasaki, a young girl who, when hospitalized with radiation sickness that presented a few years after the bomb, told herself that she would get well if she could fold 1,000 cranes. Sadly, she passed away having folded 964. | |
