7.8.10 - SPARTAN MEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM TO FACE FORMER COACH STEVE ALFORD'S NEW MEXICO SQUAD IN EXHIBITION GAME
Manchester College's men's basketball program will for the third consecutive year face a Division I opponent, this time an exhibition contest against The University of New Mexico and former Manchester College coach Steve Alford. Manchester will travel to Albuquerque, New Mexico on Saturday, November 6th to face the Lobos, with an 8 p.m. MST tip-off. In previous Division I match-ups, Manchester fell to Division I Ball State 69-55 last year and lost to Eastern Illinois 82-53 during the 2008-09 season.

The Lobos are lead by former Manchester College Coach Steve Alford that finished the year 30-5 and were a three seed in the NCAA Tournament. Coach Alford guided Manchester to a national runner-up season in 1995 and continues to be a strong follower and supporter of Manchester College athletics.

“I can’t tell you how excited I am for the opportunity our student-athletes have this fall to go out to New Mexico and, not only compete against Coach Alford’s team, but have the overall experience that I expect will come of this,' adds Manchester College Head Coach Brad Nadborne.

“Coach Alford has been very gracious in inviting us out to play in the Pit, which is newly renovated and is certainly one of the top college basketball venues in the nation. (He even mentioned something about letting us score at least once in the 1st half). Overall, what an experience this should be for our guys and our fans—great arena, great atmosphere, great program and a chance for Coach Alford to express his passion for Manchester College, while we have the opportunity to play against a Coach who truly helped to make Manchester a better place for all of us who have followed him.”

11.6.10 - SPARTANS FALL TO NEW MEXICO 107-62, DELAUDER SCORES 17 POINTS

Manchester took a 6-4 lead two minutes into the contest following a pair of free throws by Nathan Ferch, and maintained a single-digit deficit through the early part of the first half before The Lobos went on a 20-5 run to close out the half and took a 57-27 lead into the half.

Manchester managed to cut the New Mexico lead to 23 following a 13-0 run by the Spartans, as Tyler Delauder hit for three-straight three-point attempts, but New Mexico closed out the half with a 22-4 run to finish with a 107-62 win.

Delauder ended the game with a team high 17 points, going 6-13 from the floor and 5-10 from behind the arc. He added four rebounds, four assists and a steal. Mitch Schaefer added 13 points, two assists and two rebounds.
