This file with biographical material about John Young includes but is not limited to the following:

Dr. John F. Young received an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Manchester College during Commencement,1975.  Included in the collection is the citation regarding Young's life and achievements that was read prior to Young receiving this degree.

Dr. Young also received an Outstanding Alumni Award, 22 May 1971.  The letter of commondation read on that occasion is in this file.

Bio History Note

Dr. John F. Young is the father of President Jo Young Switzer.  He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Manchester College in 1942. From 1942 - 1946 he went into military service as a Naval Aviator. The following year he was granted the Master of Arts degree from Northwestern University and earned his doctorate degree from Purdue University.  Dr. Young worked as Associate Superintendent of the Fort Wayne Community Schools, and served on the Manchester College Board of Trustees, leading that group as Chairman.
