Scope and Content

A scholarly paper, signed letter, correspondence and biographical material related to the career of Dr. Allan Shultz, Paul Flory's first graduate student.  Also included are lists of Shultz's graduate students as well as a list of articles and books that Shultz has written or has helped to write, and scientific meetings that he has chaired.

Bio History NotePaul Flory was considered one of the most significant scientists of the 20th century and a 1931 graduate of Manchester College.   At commencement on May 29, 1950 the College conferred upon him the honorary Doctor of Science degree.  See his groundbreaking textbook published in 1953, "Principles of Polymer Chemistry."  He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 1974 and The American Chemical Society's most prestigious honor, the Priestly Medal, also in 1974.  Thesis, pictures, publication collections, videotape of Paul J. Archivist Note

The materials were originally sent to Dr. WIlson Lutz, who was a friend of Allan Shultz.  Dr. Lutz gave them to who at that time was Dean Jo Switzer (Dr. Switzer would become President of Manchester University)who was collecting information on Manchester College Chemistry graduates.  They came to Rob Gratz for inclusion in the Archives.
