May Day Celebrations During the 1950’s

 

1951 Queen of May - Photographs of Mary Alice Bagwell.

1952 photograph of Queen and attendants on float.  Included as an attendant is Jean Childs (Jean Childs Young).  See Aurora, pg. 61.

May Day Celebration, 1953

·         Queen Jean Childs  (Jean Childs Young) and friend, Andrew Young.

·         Maid of Honor, Phyllis Heeter (Phyllis Heeter Hunn) and friend, Art Hunn (Alumnus).

·         Donna Krieg and Myron Kennedy, Jr.

·         Mrs. Neher’s  May Day Breakfast for Queen and her Court.

·         Some photographs by Hoff Photo Lab.

1954 May Day Queen, Marvel McClurg, and court.  Jean Childs as outgoing May Day Queen. Many pictures, including indoor reception and vehicles carrying attendants to football field where an elaborate music score serves as backdrop.

1956 May Day Celebration with Queen Wordie Younis and her Court.

1957 May Day Celebration with Queen Joyce Rust Joyce Rust Snider) and Maid of Honor, Lois Cosner.  The crowning of Ms. Rust was crowned by outgoing queen Wordie Younis.  Pictures of parade and floats.

1958 May Day Celebration with Queen Phyllis George (Phyllis George Darrow) and Court.   Maid of Honor, Janet Hilleary.   A theme of Roman columns on the football field.

1959 May Day Queen  Gayle Dickson and Maid of Honor, Barbara Bender.  Pictures show procession of cars with Court and a female photographer.  A photograph of the Queen with a woman, possibly her mother.
