3.        “League of National News,” Vol. VI, Midsummer Number, No. 91, August 1929.

4.       “Milestones in the War Against the Narcotic Peril, “Extension of Remarks of Honorable Walter F. Lineberger, 1925.

5.       What appears to be a letter with signature of Walter F. Lineberger from the International Narcotic Education Association that was included with copies of “The Peril of Narcotics.”

6.       Materials from the Intercollegiate Prohibition Association – promoting self-action…..to eliminate disrespect for law, illicit drinking, and the joking attitude, and to place the students of America more positively against modification of present law.

7.       Receipt from Otho Winger for $3.00 pledge to the Intercollegiate Prohibition Association.

8.       Letter from the National Citizenship Conference – good citizenship, observance of all law in letter and spirit and thus the enforcement of the Federal Prohibition law.

1.       Packet  with materials from the Citizens Committee Of One Thousand, 66 Fifth Avenue, New York City.  The packet is addressed to “Mr. Otto Winger, President,” however, OTHO Winger was president and his brother, OTTO, was business manager.

a.       Booklet -  “A National Movement for Law Observance, The Message and The Program for 1927, proposed by the Citizens Committee of One Thousand, To arouse public sentiment in favor of Orderly Government, Obedience to all Laws, Good Citizenship, True Patriotism.”

c.       “The Real Referendum,” by Senator Borah.

1.        Tract – “How to Win, A Friendly Defense of the Rights of Young Humanity,” by William A. McKeever.  This publication is heavily anti-tobacco – especially for women.

2.       Letter and membership cards from “The Intercollegiate Prohibition Association.”

3.       Poster from “The Intercollegiate Prohibition Association,”  Prohibition At Its Worst, by Irving Fisher.

4.       Booklet – “Schoolroom Experiments With Tobacco,” by F. M. Gregg, 1926.

5.       Tract - “A Stupid  ,” by Charles Richet, a treatise on the ill effects of tobacco.

6.       Tract – “Women and Tobacco, One of the Most Vital and Serious Problems Before the Nation and the World Today,” by Charles Fillmore.

7.       Tract – “A Cause of Alarm: A Call to Arms, Recommendations for Meeting a Rapidly rowing Menace to the Nation,” by Charles Fillmore.

8.       “Five Prize Orations  by College Students, The Evils of Tobacco, Have Bob Read It.”  First Prize, partial scholarship at Manchester College, awarded to Ralph Royer.  Second Prize, five dollars awarded to Edward McComb.  Other prize contest orations by J. L. Baker, J. D. Rinehart and Emmert R. Bowman. The contest was held at Ludlow Falls, Ohio under the auspices of the District Temperance Committee of Southern Ohio, 1924.

9.       Tract published by the No-Tobacco league, Indianapolis, Indiana.

18.   Letter to President Otho Winger from the District Temperance and Reform Board of the Church of the Brethren in Middle Indiana, 8 May 1924 regarding preparations for the anti-tobacco contest for the upcoming year.  A scholarship at Manchester College is the preferred grand prize and the Temperance and Reform Board is asking the college to split the scholarship fifty-fifty with them.

Bio History Note

What appear to be President Winger's files on Alcohol and Tobacco, an assortment that he labeled "Peace and Temperance." Some of the materials were addressed to Mrs. Oscar Winger, his brother's wife.

Archivist NotePrior to July and August 2013 the mterials from the "President's Attic" had only been described in a general fashion [see original accession page MC2006/13].  During the summer of 2013 the Archivist was able to explore and describe the contents of these boxes.  Description prepared 11 September 2013 by Jeanine M. Wine.
