Scope and Content

Folder 1:   Master of Arts Thesis, "The Pedagogy of Jesus."  A Thesis for the Degree of Master of Arts.  Presented to the Faculty of Bethany Bible School, By Ezra Flory. Chicago, Illinois MCMXXVIII.

Folder 2:  Manuscript for book on "Bible Study" in two sections -- Old and New Testament.  22 May 1935.

Folder 3:

  • Booklet - "Christian Religion in the Family," by Ezra Flory, 1930.
  • Booklet - "An Outline History of the Church of the Brethren" by Ezra Flory.
  • Study Guide - "How to Mark and Study the Bible," by Ezra Flory.

Folder 4: Manuscripts and Booklets - and envelope into where these materials were folded and stored. Many manuscripts have word counts.

Folder 7:  Note - Some of the manuscripts are not specifically authored by Flory, but are in the same format and spirit as the others and thus the archivist is assuming that they are of the same hand - further research might tell otherwise.

Folder 9: - Included is the envelope postmarked 1927 that served as the "folder" that these manuscripts were folded into and stored within. Written upon it is Ms. (miscellaneous) - Jokes & Illustrations. Some of the manuscripts are not specifically authored by Flory, but are in the same format and spirit as the others and thus the archivist is assuming that they are of the same hand - further research might tell otherwise.

One Rolled Study Guide (perhaps a white window blind with ink) that had been folded into a follder with a 4 cent stamp.  The folder's label is from the Brethren Publishing House and is addressed to Ezra Flory, 621 Guilford Street, Huntington, Indiana. Handwritten notes are on the verson of the envelope. The envelope is located in folder 10.

Added 5 October 2016:

Signed and dated, Ezra Flory, October 1, 1907, at Bethany Bible School - one "the New Testament, In Original Greek."  This Bible was discovered within the uncatalogued book section in the collection of the archives by Jeanine Wine.

One book, "Presented to Ezra Flory by Sister Mary H. Senger of Chambersburg, Pa. 1908," a German/English edition of the New Testament, published by the American Bible Society, New York, 1870. This Bible was discovered within the uncatalogued book section in the collection of the archives by Jeanine Wine.

Yearbook from Bethany Bible School, "The Evangel, 1925," Volume II.  The archivist forgets how she came across this book.  It might have been part of the archives' uncatalogued/old book section.  The publication is signed by Ezra Flory, May 1925. Added to MU2013/144 23 July 2018 by Jeanine Wine.

Bio History Note

The first full-time General Secretary of the General Sunday School Board in the Church of the Brethren, Ezra Flory, minister, elder, and educator, was the father of MC alumnus, and Nobel Prize recipient, Paul Flory.

At the time Ezra received his Master of Arts Degree at Manchester College the Masters required 45 hours of work in an advanced subject or some subjects. It could have been in the area of Theology.   Ezra does not have a record card in the Archives but is listed in the Manchester College Bulletin. The title of Ezra's thesis was "The Pedagogy of Jesus."
