Notes from conversation with Professor Orpurt:

Buildings and Trees is Orpurt's record of his study of Manchester College trees.  He recalls that as a M. C. student he pruned nearly every tree on the front campus. 

There was a dispute about the original size of the campus.

"Tater" Brooks was the owner of a "Shell" gas station where Orpurt and other students would "hang out and buy Cokes."

The Biology Building - north of the current power plant, used to be the original gym.  There was a very small swimming pool in the basement that didn't work too well.

Tennis courts were located north of Petersime Chapel.

Shuffle-board courts were located west of Petersime Chapel.

L. D. Ikenberry "pillarded" spindly smaller trees, chopping their tops off. The College sold a lot of oak wood for lumber in the early days.

The first Centennial Tree was planted on the east side of east street.

O. W. Neher and Orpurt were responsible for plantings on campus before Dave Good assumed the position.
