Every four years the Manchester soccer team offers a January Session in Jamaica.  Organized around the University’s motto of Faith, Learning, and Service, and guided by Coach Good and a MU professor, students do classwork while engaging in service projects at Maranatha School for the Deaf, and playing soccer matches with counterparts in Kingston.  The first trip of this kind was made to Nigeria in 1988, when the team was hosted by Coach Good’s parents.  That first project involved digging trenches for water pipes.  Our students played several games against town and school teams before crowds approaching 10,000 people.  Hosted by Dr. Hyedima Bwala, MD (’71), Manchester competed against the University of Maiduguri, a game attended by the governor of Borno State.
