Bio History Note

Dale Oxender is a scientist and an alumnus of Manchester College.  The following information is copied from from an obituary located on the internet http://archives.record-eagle.com/2003/dec/16obits.htm

   MICHIGAN - Dr. Dale L. Oxender, a native of Michigan, passed away on December 11, 2003, after an extended illness. He was born on August 30, 1932, to Harry and Myrtle Oxender.
      He is survived by his wife, Jean, of 48 years; two sons, Derrick (Jane) and Theodore (Maritza); two grandsons, Andrew and Bryan; one sister; and three brothers.
      Dr. Oxender was a member of the Dixboro United Methodist Church in Ann Arbor, and St. Marks United Methodist Church of Tucson, Ariz. He has been an active participant in church work all his life.
      He took undergraduate studies at Manchester College, in North Manchester, Ind. He received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in biochemistry from Purdue University in 1956 and 1959, respectively.
      Dr. Oxender served as Director of the Center of Molecular Genetics at the University of Michigan from 1986 to 1990. He is known internationally for his innovative research contributions in the area of biochemistry of proteins, bacterial cell transport, and genetics. He retired from the University of Michigan, after a highly productive career as an instructor and scientific investigator, to become Vice President for Biotechnology at Warner Lambert Parke-Davis. After ten years of service, Dale retired as Distinguished Research Fellow Emeritus from Warner Lambert Park-Davis.
      Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. at Trinity Church of the Brethren, 27350 W. Chicago, Redford, on Jan. 10, 2004.
