Scope and Content

The fans are not dated. A closer date could be achieved by researching the U. O. Colson Company, the date of the buildings included in the campus layout, and the description of the College as printed on the fan. A cursory date would be between 1932 (granting of accreditation by the NCAC) and 1955 (before construction of major building such as East Hall and Holl-Kintner Hall of Science).

Bio History Note

From the internet: The Colson Company began in Paris, Illinois as the U. O. Colson Company in 1892.  It was originally a printing company and grew into a manufacturer of advertising items that were sold nationwide.  Today, its calendars and paper fans can be found on Ebay.

In 1955 the Colson's had 18 district sales offices and 250 salespersons.  The Colson family sold the business in 1967 and the business went through several ownership changes until ceasing operation in 1992 (its 100th anniversary year) when it was strictly a Calendar Printing advertiser.

Buildings included in the picture are Ikenberry Hall, the Biology Building, the "joined" Administration Building, the fountain North of the Administration Building, Oakwood Hall, the Old Library/Communications Building (after remodeling in 1926), the Old Gymnasium, the Power Plant, and Goshorn. (see page 85 of "A Century of Faith, Learning and Service").
