Bio History Note

Class Day Candle Lighting Ceremony - from the program: Following tradition, the seniors receive light for their candles from President Winger, as a symbol of the truth and knowledge the college has given them. On the eve of each commencement thereafter, it is traditional for each graduate of the college to place in his window a candle with an oak leaf shade.

The Church of the Brethren mentioned in Joe's biography is that of Beaverton Church of the Brethren, Shock Road, Beaverton, Michigan.
