Bio History Note

Safe Zone is a program designed to create a network of visible allies to people who identify as part of the diverse LGBTIQA+ community. The four hour educational session provides information and resources related to sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression. It is a program that has been implemented at various schools and organizations and there’s more information on the official website: http://thesafezoneproject.com/about/what-is-safe-zone/

Haley is not sure when Safe Zone began at Manchester, but it falls under the responsibilities of United Sexualities and Genders (USG, but formerly US while Haley attended Manchester. They changed the name this past year [2017-2018] to be more inclusive in Fall 2018). A new Safe Zone Coordinator is elected for each new school year to plan trainings and update the training program. The smaller manual is the one Haley received during her original Safe Zone training in Fall 2013, but there are notes on each page for her to remember what to say as a facilitator in Spring of 2014. The larger manual was the updated version made in the 2014-2015 schoolyear when T. H. (see Haley's notes on archives network location in folder titled United Sexualities ) was Safe Zone Coordinator. Additionally, Haley has provided her two laminated Safe Zone cards, one for trainer and general member. Once someone completed a training, they could hang the card on their door, wall, etc., to advertise that they are a safe space to come to if peers have issues.

Drag Show 2014-2015 - The theme of the show was "Taste the Rainbow," and all décor was candy themed. This is the first year that MU faculty and staff performed in the show.

Pride Prom 2015 had a "Rocky Horror Picture Show" theme.
