Scope and Content

3 Folder 1 Sleeve - Individual portraits of Football players (circa 1976, see pg 49 of 1976 Aurora) - Dr. Ed Miller presents the Carl Waldo Holl Scholarship (Carl Waldo Holl Scholarship Fund) to students.

3 Folder 2 Sleeve - (circa 1976) Football Coach Jack Jarrett - football game with fans - Coach James Gratz watching from above accompanied by Bill Phillips and Ledford Benton (MC alumnus) who was the North Manchester high school football coach around this time ( - Images from a "Jesus" concert.

3 Folder 3 a,b Sleeve - Baseball - Game shots and individual players, including Mark Frey and Jim Jenkins.

3 Folder 4 Sleeve - Telescope within Morris Observatory, circa December 1973. Reference "Aurora" 1974," pg. 119.

3 Folder 5 Sleeve - Photos probably taken by "Rich." These negatives were in sleeves with other negatives that were also in sleeves.  One date would indicate 1973-1974 so begin researching around that time.  Included is Track, Football and more Football (that might be from another year - one image is that of #27 Dan Taylor). Some Track images include pole vault, discuss, and are included in the 1973 Aurora, so would have taken place Spring 1972. Images include Pat Hollar throwing the discus (Spring 1972), Lindsey Grantham, and the Spring 1972 Track Team [see Biographical/Historical Note Section of accession record].  Also included in an award (honor award?) with the name "Scheerer" as the apparent sponsor.

3 Folder 6 Sleeve - Probably taken circa the mid-1970's  - images show female students working at electric typewriters and other equipment that includes a stylus and background clips of "music" and "cutouts" - perhaps for use with a mimeograph machine? The images were labeled "RN" (as perhaps in "Nursing" ) but  indicate more of an office/business or secretarial/clerical theme. A mimeograph machine (with protruding handle) might be seen in the back of the typewriter room along the wall. Several days after scanning the proof sheet turned up in another box.  "1975 Business" was written on the verso.

Bio History Note

Note: 3 Folder 1 Sleeve had a note "John" on the negative envelope and 3 Folder 2 Sleeve  had the note "Rich" on the envelope.  John and Rich were probably the photographers taking the pictures.

3 Folder 5 Sleeve - Track - From the 1973 Aurora, pg. 52: "3rd in Conference - 2 Records Fall."  Last spring the Manchester Track team, under the direction of Coach Don Meek, completed another successful season.  Two records fell during the course of the season and the Spartans finished third in the Hoosier-Buckeye College Conference.  Two members of the team, Fred Bullock and Bill Koleszar were All-Conference selections for Manchester, in the high jump and the 440 year run respectively.  Fred Bullock and Scott Manges qualified for the All-District 21 NAIA Team, Bullock again in the High jump and Manges in the Steeplechase..............In the conference meet which was held at Hanover, Bill Koleszar and Fred Bullock each won their respective event.  Bill turned out a blazing 440 time of 50.2 seconds.  Fred set a new school record in the high jump by clearing the bar at 6 feet 8 1/4 inches.  MC placed third as a team.  Duane Thelme led the Spartans in total points for the season with 61 points and was also selected most Valuable Trackman.  Paul Sibray was the Honorary Captain for MC.
