This 2017 drama directed by Robin Campillo provides a fictionalized account of the early years of ACT UP-Paris as its members fought for better treatment and health care access for people living with HIV and AIDS. While the first part of the film offers a portrait of the organization: its internal debates, political commitments, and provocative tactics, the second half traces the personal impact of HIV at a time when a diagnosis was nearly always a death sentence via the relationship between a newcomer and a seasoned activist.

Co-written by founding members of the organization, this film won the Grand Jury prize at the Cannes Film Festival and six Césars (French Oscars), including best film. The film is in French with English subtitles and is intended for mature audiences. It contains explicit language and sexual content.

Interdisciplinary panel discussion and Q&A will follow the film. Participants include Barb Burdge Caraline Feairheller, Chole Leckrone, Pete Martini, Tim McKenna-Buchanan and Alex Mills.

This film is a part of the Tournées Film Festival, sponsored by the French American Cultural Exchange in conjunction with the Department of Modern Languages, the College of Arts and Humanities, and the President's Diversity and Inclusion Council. The event is free and open to the public.

The entire program is 2 hours and 30 minutes. Undergraduates are reminded to bring their student identification for credit.
