Kinshasa Makambo - VIA

  • Dates: 12 – 12 Mar, 2020
Thursday, March 12
7 p.m.
Cordier Auditorium

This 2018 documentary follows three activists in the Democratic Republic of Congo working to remove President Joseph Kabila from power through non-violent means in 2018 after Kabila overstayed his elected term. Alternating footage interweaves mass demonstrations with the intimate conversations that frame them as Congolese youth reveal hopes for their country amidst conflict. The event will conclude with a panel and Q&A including Bob Gilbert and Elton Skendaj from peace studies.

This film includes scenes of violence and explicit language. Kinshasa Makambo is in Lingala and French with English subtitles.

It is the final film in the Tournées Film Festival, sponsored by the French American Cultural Exchange in conjunction with the Department of Modern Languages, the College of Arts and Humanities, and the President's Diversity and Inclusion Council. All Tournées events are free and open to the public.

The program is expected to last two hours. Undergraduates are reminded to bring their student ID for VIA credit.
