Panel at Manchester looks at sex and politics today
NORTH MANCHESTER – Sex scandals are certainly not new to U.S. politics, but a wave of accusations and consequences – along with the #MeToo movement – has swept the nation in a way that is unprecedented.
Where will all of this lead and why is this happening now? What standards do we expect from political figures? How should accusations be handled?
Manchester University is offering an opportunity to talk about the topic in a civil, respectful manner at “Sex & Politics: You Be the Judge,” offered at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 17 in Cordier Auditorium on the North Manchester campus.
It is free and open to the public.
A panel of faculty and students will speak, opening up the discussion with members of the audience.
The faculty members include Dr. Barb Burdge, associate professor of social work and director of the Social Work Program; Tina Edwards, lecturer of sociology; Dr. Katharine Ings, director of gender studies and English Department chair; and Dr. Leonard Williams, professor of political science and dean of the College of Education and Social Sciences. The students include seniors Joey Jones and Student Senate President Tate Wooding.
This program is intended to explore diverse opinions. This is part of the MU Values, Ideas and the Arts series, which offers academic enrichment for students.
The discussion was coordinated by Jay Watts, director of the MU CARE Initiative.
