Upcoming Internet Outages

There are planned Internet outages coming soon according to our Internet Service Provider (ISP).  As with most planned outages, the actual time needed to perform the work is probably less than what is listed below, often significantly less.  We’re also hopeful that you won’t even notice the work due to the redundancies in place.

April 18th, 19th, and 20th:  From midnight to 5 a.m.

New SpartanPrint

We’re working with the three selected finalists (Allen Business Machines (Sharp), Cannon IV (HP), and Perry ProTECH (Konica-Minolta)) to define what equipment we’ll place where.  We hope to have all the proposals by the end of this month, with a selection made before finals in May.

We intend to implement the new SpartanPrint during the summer so that the equipment is ready for the start of classes in the “fall”.  The SpartanPrint team will provide multiple training opportunities and venues to prepare you to maximize the equipment features.

While the equipment will be better than what we currently use, we still want to announce that we will not have all the bells and whistles at every SpartanPrint location.  You may have to walk a short distance to the nearest printer with the features you need.  We also want to remind you that the Print Shop is the least expensive and most secure option for your printed documents.

Improved Residence Hall Wireless

As you’ve read in email from the MU administration, we’re working on East, Garver, and Schwalm this summer.  That includes replacing the HP wireless system with one from Cisco.  Where possible, we’ll move the radios higher on the walls to minimize the risk of damage.  At the same time, we’ll tune the wireless in East Street Apartments, Helman, and Oakwood based on an updated site survey and your feedback.

Password Reset Reminder Email

In recent months, the ITS team developed an email reminder system to advise you when your network password was set to expire.  We recognize that you receive spam email purportedly designed to reset your password.  Because of the potential confusion, we provide an example of the email that we send below.

NEVER provide your MU password to any website unless you’re sure of its authenticity.  When in doubt, please contact the ITS Help Desk (contact information can be found above).
