MU Account Lockouts

Last time we reported that changing your password might lead to account lockouts due to the way many people have multiple applications that use MU credentials.  If an app continually tries to log into your account using your old password, so the theory goes, your account becomes disabled because of the number of invalid attempts in a limited period.

While this is true, we’ve also discovered that some MU accounts are under persistent attack from miscreants often outside of the U.S.  We cannot ascertain why these bad actors attack some accounts and not others.  However, Microsoft developed a means for us to prevent the system from locking MU accounts despite these attacks.  We initially tested the tool, found that it worked well, and recently implemented it to prevent some instances of MU account lockout.

SpartanCable Local Channel Outage

Our residents know that channels 7 through 11 have not worked for a while.  These are local Fort Wayne channels.  The problem is that the broadcaster had to replace their antenna system to remain FCC-compliant.  To do so, they moved their existing antenna lower on the tower by 200 feet.  That makes the antenna’s coverage much worse.  The North Manchester campus is now too far to obtain the signal.

We learned that we will restore these channels once the broadcaster installs the new antenna at the original height.  Unfortunately, we don’t know when that will occur.  We apologize for the inconvenience.

Printing@MU Tip

Did you forget or lose your MU ID?  You can still use the Printing@MU system, although it’s not as easy as tapping your ID to the reader.  You can log in to the printing system using your MU credentials (username and password) on the printer’s touchscreen.

REPRINT:  Windows 10

Microsoft support for Windows 7 ends soon.  We want to transition all MU-owned desktops and laptops to Windows 10 at your convenience.  If you have Windows 7 (or something older), please contact the Help Desk team to request an upgrade.  If Windows is running sluggish, you might consider asking us to rebuild it for you.

There’s no need to panic, but you will need to act.  Microsoft ends Windows 7 support in 16 months.
