2018 Board of Certification Exam Results
This year was a fantastic year for the students who sat for the Board of Certification exam to become certified athletic trainers. The 10 undergraduate students who are graduating and took the exam all passed the exam on the first time. This 100 percent pass rate is fantastic for our accreditation and continues to show the strength of our school and program.
The Master of Athletic Training program had 12 students this year who are eligible to take the exam. Of the 11 taking the exam in April 10 passed on their first attempt for a 91 percent success rate. The 12th student will take the exam in June. Of our undergraduate and graduate students taking the exam combined this year, 20 of 21 passed the exam on the first attempt. Congratulations!

Our Exercise Science and Athletic Training Department had a big presence in the 2018 Manchester Research Symposium. We are very proud of our students who do research with faculty mentors. Thank you to everyone who helped with speaking, presenting, organizing, etc. Once again this year we had three Majors of the Year representing the three main majors housed in the ESAT Department. As always, we are proud of the three individuals listed below who received this honor. From these three Hunter Gaerte was chosen the Lana Groombridge Award Winner. This winner is chosen from faculty and staff who interact with these students in class and other environments.

Remodeling and Improvements
If you have not been to campus for a while, you should see the improvements to the ESAT and Athletics departments. We have repainted and remodeled the Spartan Room for future events and replaced all of the furniture. Please see our improvements below in the pictures.
Initiatives: In 2018, the ESAT Department looked to the future academically. As department chair I was charged with moving the department forward with a new possible initiative. As we discussed our ideas, one emerged as the leader: adding a master’s degree in nutrition. We developed a proposal and presented it to the Cabinet and the Board of Trustees for consideration. We are awaiting a decision, but we are hopeful. With this move the ESAT Department would add two registered dietitians to our faculty who would provide academic and research support. Again, this has not been approved, but we feel strongly about the value of adding this degree to our department.
2018 GLATA: This year Manchester University hosted an alumni event that brought together current students and alumni. The gathering was at the RAM Brewery in Wheeling, Ill., where several alumni come back to chat about old times and the future.
