Dr. Scott Humphries, D.M.A.

Dr. Scott Humphries received a Bachelor of Music Education from James Madison University. He received a Master of Arts in Education (Curriculum and Instruction – music) from Virginia Tech, where he served as a graduate assistant with the Marching Virginians under David McKee. He earned a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in music education at Boston University. His field of study includes community and lifelong music making.

He taught middle school and high school bands in Virginia from 1989-1994, and from 1996-2008. Since 2008, he has been an assistant professor and the Director of Instrumental Studies and Music Education at Manchester University in Indiana. At Manchester University, he conducts the university bands, symphony orchestra, and a variety of music education courses. In 2011, he joined the Fort Wayne Area Community Band as principal conductor.

Dr. Humphries has published works for young bands through MSB Publishing, Inc. He has co-authored an article in the journal Psychology of Music, and presented research at the NAfME national conference. He has also presented at faculty seminars on assessment practices as well as online teaching methods. Additionally, he remains an active clinician and adjudicator throughout the United States. He maintains membership in NAfME (collegiate chapter advisor), IMEA, CODA, CBDNA, and the Indiana Bandmasters Association.
