Practical experience in real world settings

Internships are a great way for students to get practical experience in real world settings. Manchester University athletic training students intern in physical therapy clinics and health care facilities, as well as for professional sports teams. Here are some examples of the internship experiences of former and current students:

Amanda Tassler '14 completed an internship at the Fort Wayne Ballet during the summer of 2012 working with ballet, modern, and contemporary dancers.

Brooke Waddups '13 completed an internshipduring the summer of 2012 working with a physical therapy clinic in Logansport, Indiana

Miranda Scher '13 completed an internship during the summer of 2012 working with Therapy ONE, a physical therapy clinic, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She will also be completing an athletic training internship in the Fall of 2012 at Whitko High School in South Whitley, Indiana

Makenna Hamilton '13 completed an internship during the summer of 2012 working with a physical therapy clinic at a local hospital in her hometown.

Peter Kowalczyk '13 completed an internship during the summer of 2012 working with a physical therapy clinic in Chicago, Illinois. 

Jordan Redding '13 completed an internship during the summer of 2012 working with a Chiropractic clinic.

Jimmy Hertzler '09 completed a summer internship as an athletic training student with Beacon Physical Therapy clinic in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Laci Bower '09 completed a summer internship as an athletic training student in 2008 with Dr. Jon Reibly at Reibly Chiropractic Center, Peru, Ind.

Laurie Gribschaw '07 spent the 2006 summer session completing an internship in the Department of Physical Therapy, St. Anthony's Medical Center, Crown Point, Ind.

Josh Scott '07 completed a summer 2006 internship with J. Robison Intensive Sport Camps, working as an Athletic Training intern with ice hockey camps at the University of Minnesota and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y.

Holly Smith '07 completed a summer 2006 internship with Delta Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine, Delta, Ohio. Holly also was employed as an Athletic Training intern with Athletes in Action, traveling to Brazil in July.

Garth Heater '07 was employed by J. Robinson Intensive Sports Camps as an Athletic Training intern during the summer of 2009, working at basketball camps in Minnesota and New York.

Josh Scott '07 completed a January Session 2006 internship with the Fort Wayne, Ind. Komets of the United Hockey League.

James Samuels '06 was a summer athletic training intern for the NFL Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2004 season.

Missy Mickelini '04, ATC, completed a January 2004 internship in Industrial Athletic Training with Indiana Physical Therapy, Ft. Wayne, Ind.

Andrew Jackson '04 was an athletic training intern with the Detroit Lions of the NFL for the spring and summer of 2003.

John Patton '01, ATC, spent January session 2001 completing an internship in athletic training at Peru (Ind.) High School. He was supervised by Greg Badry '87, ATC, head athletic trainer at PHS.

Ryan Hedstrom '00, Ph.D., ATC, served as an athletic training intern with the South Bend Silverhawks (Class A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks) in the summer of 1999.

Lou Bustos '00, ATC, worked as an athletic training intern with the Class A Fort Wayne Wizards (San Diego Padres affiliate) in the summer of 1999.

Patrick Violette '99, ATC, worked as a summer athletic training intern for the NFL San Diego Chargers for the 1998 season.

Michael Salazar '98, MS, ATC, was one of four athletic training interns selected to work spring training for the Atlanta Braves organization in 1997.

Julie Davidson '98, ATC served as an athletic training intern at the Center for Sport and Physical Therapy in Wabash, Ind., an out-patient physical therapy facility.

Al Heminger '97, MS, ATC, served as an athletic training intern with the Fort Wayne Komets of the United Hockey League in January 1997. Al also served as a summer intern for the Indianapolis Colts in the 1998 pre-season.
