Dr. Beam joined the Manchester University Pharmacy Program in July of 2015. She has over 20 years of academic experience in teaching, research, faculty leadership, and administration. Dr. Beam earned her B.S in Biology/Chemistry from Saint Francis College (1991) and her Ph.D in Molecular Biology from University of Notre Dame (1996). She previously served as Professor and Chair in the Department of Biology at the University of Saint Francis (USF). At USF, she earned multiple teaching awards and grants from organizations including the National Science Foundation, Independent Colleges of Indiana, US Department of Energy, Talent Initiative, Project Learning Tree, and others. Teri is a member of the Indiana Academy of Science (IAS), American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP), and the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Her recognized expertise in medical genetics, molecular biology, and pharmacogenomics has made her a sought-after lecturer in physician assistant, nurse practitioner, pharmacy, and medical college programs in Indiana. In the classroom, she uses problem-based learning and case-based studies to reinforce key clinical concepts. In research, Dr. Beam is interested in developing novel, non-vertebrate animal models for understanding the pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics of pharmaceuticals. She is also interested in using geographic information system (GIS) models for pharmacogenomics-enhanced, community-based medicine.
