Professional and Graduate Commencement, Saturday, May 20, North Manchester

On Saturday morning, our graduating class, their families and friends, along with faculty and staff, will make the journey to North Manchester to complete graduation week. Professional and Graduate Commencement Exercises in Cordier Auditorium will be recognizing the graduates in pharmacy and athletic training.

To prepare for the Commencement processional, graduates must report to Science Center, Room 101 at 8:45 a.m. with student marshals, Assistant Professor Tracy Brooks (pharmacy) and Associate Professor Jeff Beer (athletic training). All graduates have reserved their tickets (10 tickets per graduate) for family and friends and seating will begin in Cordier Auditorium at 9 a.m.

Commencement Processional

Graduates will march from the Science Center to Cordier Auditorium in the order listed below:

  1. Doctor of Pharmacy candidates, alphabetically.
  2. Master of Athletic Training candidates, alphabetically.
Once outside of Cordier, the student marshals will place you in a single file line, alphabetically. As you enter Cordier, watch the usher when filing to your seat; you may be the first to start a new row. The usher will do the counting.

Commencement Ceremony, 10 a.m.

During the Commencement ceremony, men remove caps only during the invocation, the singing of the University song, and the benediction. Women may keep their caps on through the service or remove them during the invocation, University song, and benediction.

Groups will come to the platform to receive the diploma in the following order:

A. Master of Athletic Training Candidates

  1. Candidates will rise when Dean Rospond says, “Will the candidates for the degree Master of Athletic Training please rise?” MAT candidates will all rise
  2. M.A.T candidates will come to the platform steps when Dr. Rospond says, "Will the candidates for this degree please come to the platform?" The usher will help cue the row when to stand and line up.
  3. Please note: M.A.T. candidates will be hooded, as well as receive their diplomas during this ceremony.

B. Doctor of Pharmacy Candidates

  1. Candidates will rise when Dr. Rospond says, "Will the candidates for the degree of Doctor of Pharmacy please rise?" All Pharm.D. candidates will rise.
  2. Pharm.D. candidates will come to the platform row by row. All Pharm.D. candidates seated will walk to the podium steps when Dr. Rospond says, "Will the candidates for this degree please come to the platform?" The usher will help cue the row when to stand and line up.

All Candidates Please Note:

A. The first candidate to receive a degree should be standing on the top step (the stage) before his or her name is read and should move forward only if the name read is hers or his. That way, Dean Rospond knows to add “in absentia” after the name if no one moves forward. If the candidate is not on the top step, Dean Rospond cannot be sure whether the candidate is moving forward to accept the diploma or is moving up the steps to get into position. Remember, the first candidate should be standing on the top step (the stage) when the first name is read. As soon as that candidate moves forward, the next candidate should take his or her place at the edge of the stage and others behind move up one step.

B. When graduates return to their seats after having received the diploma, they may turn the tassel from right to left to signify their graduation and be seated.

C. At the conclusion of the Commencement ceremony, a formal pharmacy Class of 2017 photo will be taken.

D. Following the conclusion of the Commencement ceremony, for those interested, there are lunch opportunities available on campus, please click on the Lunch Menu tab in the left margin menu to learn more.
