Interviewing

Good interviewing skills are a critical component to your job search. Resumes get you interviews and interviews get you job offers! In order to prepare for interviews, evaluate your related experience and skills, prepare examples to describe those qualifications, research the organization, consider your fit for the job and organization, and practice your interview skills.

Practice with Mock Interviews!

A practice interview is an opportunity to test your interviewing skills. Email to set up a mock-interview with CPD.

In-Person

The interview will take place in the Success Center Interview Room. Allow 60 minutes to complete the practice interview and feedback session. The interview will be videotaped. A trained staff interviewer will spend 15-20 minutes asking interview questions. The video will be viewed immediately and critiqued by the interviewer and participant. It may be helpful to take notes during the critique.

Skype/Phone

Sometimes, employers will set up a Skype or phone interview. It is important to practice for these settings as well. The Skype/phone mock interview process is similar to that above, but without the video camera or playback. Also, if you simply need a phone line or private space for an online interview, we can help!

Interview Stream

When you log-in to Spartan Jobs, you will have access to an online mock interview tool called Interview Stream. Here you can conduct a mock interview on your own time – you just need a webcam or mobile device with a video feature. This is also a great way to practice for Skype or online interviews. You can even request for a CPD staff member to critique your recorded practice interview. Check it out!
