Excellence in the Sciences

“Science is a big deal with my family,” says Alexa Callaway, whose father teaches Life Sciences and whose mother is a medical director at a Grand Rapids, Mich., hospital. As Manchester alumni, they both know that science is a big deal here, too.

A biology-chemistry major on a pre-dentistry track, Alexa knew that Manchester would prepare her well for her next step. “It’s rigorous, it’s hard, but I’m going to transition into dental school way easier than if I went somewhere else.”

Advice for Students Looking at MU

It’s natural to be living in a state of ambiguity during your college years. Most things are uncertain, but the one certain thing is that your time at Manchester University is shaping you into someone the world needs.

“When I was in 7th grade I got braces, and I thought it was so cool that someone was using my mouth and basically doing a puzzle.”

DISCOVERY AND GROWTH
“I’ve always been interested in business and science, so I was trying to find something that would combine the two of them,” says Alexa. While participating in a January session trip to Nicaragua for MU’s Medical Practicum, she also found she has an interest in public health. “I’d like to help with the free clinic wherever I find myself and help people with their dental health.”
