Alumni donors offer matching challenge for Petersime Chapel roof project

Manchester's iconic Petersime Chapel has been at the heart of campus since 1961. After decades of welcoming diverse groups and services through its doors, the Chapel is in need of a new roof, with a project goal of $150,000.

Help us raise the roof!

Petersime Chapel is iconic to Manchester University…to students, alumni, faculty, staff, and our broader community. As stated in 2011 by Ferne Strohm ’58 Baldwin, former archivist and professor emerita of sociology and social work:

Many who came from all religious persuasions were married there. It wasn’t just a Brethren hangout. It never has been. It has been a center on campus for many things – a focal point – both for students and faculty.

Located centrally on Manchester’s beautiful mall, overlooking the heart of campus, Petersime Chapel has witnessed our growth since 1961. It has welcomed diverse groups like Simply Brethren, Men’s and Women’s Bible Study, United Sexualities and Genders, faculty/staff study groups, community groups, and others. Church of the Brethren services have been held there as well as Catholic masses, non-denominational reflections, weddings and funerals. And now, the chapel needs a bit of loving care, and a new roof.

The project goal is $150,000. Generous alumni donors are offering a matching challenge – they will match your gift, dollar for dollar, up to $75,000! Join with your gift to celebrate the meaning of Valentine’s Day – love and inclusion – as exemplified by our beloved Chapel!
